PHCAfrica is an NGO in the making championing community led interventions for sustainable impact on health and wellbeing of communities and generations.
Established in 2018 as Behaviour Change (ABCU), a company limited by guarantee, ABCU primarily focused on aspects of behaviour, attitude, perception and life style to promote health.
ABCU later transformed and changed name to Purpose Health care Africa (PHCA) in 2022 expanding scope to a vast range of thematic areas such as Gender Equity and social inclusion, risk communication and community engagement, research and advocacy, community dialogues, provision of material health items such as personal protection equipment (PPEs), capacity building of health workers, among others.
Origin
PHCAfrica draws its inspiration from its founder and Director, Mr. Daraus Bahikire who gained exquisite experience in working in the Ministry of Health .His extensive community works exposed him to challenges related to community health and health promotion specifically to behaviour change for disease prevention and control.
With his academic and professional experience, Daraus thought it worth to originate an initiative that can complement the efforts of the Ministries of Health and other sector players in designing and promoting community led health projects, programs and interventions to deal with a high burden of both communicable and non-communicable diseases
